Alumna Joins Inaugural Class of Douglass Fellows

Cory Sagduyu BS’15 was selected for the inaugural class of the Douglass Fellowship.

Created by the Human Trafficking Institute, the nine-month program is named for Frederick Douglass and is inspired by his political and social ideals. Fellows are selected based on their leadership potential, commitment to human rights and academic ability, among other traits.

As part of the fellowship, Cory was paired with a mentor who works on anti-trafficking initiatives. Cory’s mentor is Laura Rundlet, acting deputy director of the U.S. Department of State’s Office to Monitor & Combat Trafficking in Persons

Cory — who graduated with a degree in political science — was a McDermott Scholar. During her time at UTD, she was a member of the women’s cross country team and interned at the White House Office of the National Economic Council as part of the Bill Archer Fellow Program.

She is currently attending the University of Virginia School of Law.
