Why Today is an Important Date in UTD History

On this day in 1969, with Founders Building as a backdrop, Gov. Preston Smith signed House Bill 303, which transitioned the Southwest Center for Advanced Studies into The University of Texas at Dallas.
The bill went into effect on Sept. 1, 1969.
