Ride-sharing is a popular and easy way to get around town. While this transportation option is generally considered safe, Chief Larry Zacharias of the UT Dallas Police Department offers a few tips to help you protect yourself on the road:

  • Always check the license plate, make and model before getting into a vehicle. The ride-share app provides this information before the vehicle arrives.
  • Ride with a friend, or share your trip details with a friend or family member through the app so they can track your safe arrival.
  • Wait indoors until the app shows your driver has arrived.
  • If you are riding alone, sit in the backseat so that you can safely exit on either side of the vehicle and avoid moving traffic.
  • Trust your intuition.

“Don’t be afraid to trust your instincts. Use your best judgment when riding,” Zacharias said. “And, if you ever feel you’re in an emergency situation, call 911 immediately. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.”

Ride-share pickup and dropoff locations on campus have been designated at the following spots: Loop Road and Tatum Street, the traffic circle between the Visitor Center and Naveen Jindal School of Management, the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center, Lot R outside the Administration Building, Lot P on Loop Road near Rutford Avenue, outside Residence Hall Northwest on North Loop Road, and at Northside on Synergy Park Boulevard.
